How Do I Navigate My Wheelchair Over Difficult Terrain?

Pushing(a manual chair) through loose dirt/gravel/pine needles. I know there’s no way to make it actually easy, but sometimes it’s unavoidable for short distances. Are there any tricks to decrease the likelihood of getting stuck?

The secret to dealing with difficult terrain is to lift your front wheels off the ground. Your front casters are what make it difficult to get over uneven surfaces. If you practice balancing your chair on the back wheels, it will make it much easier to move through things like snow, branches, or gravel for short distances.

If you need to move over longer distances, I would recommend you pick up a FreeWheel. It’s pricey, but it’ll give you enough mobility to really enjoy outdoor spaces.
