How Do You Deal With Comparing Yourself to Other Disabled People?

the-toxic-hell asks, quote:

How do you deal with comparing yourself to other disabled people? I see others with my disease having a harder time than me and hearing their stories makes me feel that I am not disabled enough to warrant things like mobility aids.

end quote.

When dealing with a condition that has a wide range of symptoms and severity, it can be easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others in a similar situation. It can be even easier to believe that your condition doesn’t deserve the same level of care and consideration as those who have it worse than you do.

But here’s the thing: disabled people might have different conditions (or different severities of the same condition), but they have the same goal: live as healthy and happy as possible. And isn’t that what really matters?

Do whatever it takes to be healthy and happy. Life is too fucking short to do otherwise.
